Omaha Hi-Low: Basic Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complicated but popular poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of betting ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where some entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

Although it seems difficult at the outset, following a few hands you will be able to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of betting choices and seeing that you have many players shooting for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low. If you like a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
