Omaha Hi Low: General Summary
Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so quickly.
Omaha/8 starts just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting happens. After all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. an additional round of wagering happens and then the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to put together the best high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants often get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in just about every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the smallest value hand possible. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
Although it seems complex at first, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental nuances of the game with ease. Since you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an overwhelming collection of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
